Alice is a fashion, beauty and lifestyle magazine for college women, by college women, based out of the University of Alabama. Print issues of Alice are distributed for sale in Books-a-Million stores across the south eastern United States, on campus at the University of Alabama, and in Barnes & Noble stores in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
I have been a member of the Alice staff since 2016. Below are the issues of Alice produced under my direction as editor-in-chief.
"This issue started with a late night coffee date with Meg [McGuire] brooding over the magnitude of the word "microcosm." A simple definition of the term is this: We, as individuals, and our personal experiences are a small glimpse into the bigger picture. Vague right? That's what we presented to our editors, and thus the wide range of articles that fill this issue.
We cross paths with an international
Navigate Paris solo
Sit down with Miss Alabama herself
All of these come to the summation that individuals and their experiences all fit into something bigger. People are constantly on the move to find themselves — but the idea of a microcosm shows us that we all fit into this world. We're all small pieces of this greater movement forward." "In this spring issue of Alice, we go to the front lines of the debate on women's role in the military, bring the Time's Up movement closer to home, and learn how to better define the concept of beauty across borders. Everyone knows that women are strong, but it is how that strength is perceived that needs to change. I want this mag to be a step toward altering that perspective. This can only be done by continuing to promote and foster the creative expression of women on our campus and beyond.
This issue invites you to step into a new perspective on these everyday topics of interest and debate, while also providing ways to better your life as a college woman. My staff and I hope that these stories of extraordinary women inspire you to get involved and invested in the future that we get to create and share together." [from my Letter from the Editor]
"This little summer freebie has some of our favorite images from our trip to Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee (more of these to come in our Fall/Winter issue). The articles we selected for this issue cover "What Not to Wear" to your hip new job or internship as well as how to stay busy in a deserted college town. Whether you are lounging or laboring away, we tried to cover all of the bases for your varying summer plans while also keeping the online issue short and sweet.
We hope you find some insight within these pages and get just as pumped as we are for the year to come.
As always, dear readers, thank you for the endless support and love you show our little student-run mag. We couldn't do any of this without each and every one of you." [from my Letter from the Editor]
